Farmers Market Promotion Program
The Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) is designed to help improve and expand domestic farmers markets, roadside stands, community-supported agriculture programs, agri-tourism activities, and other direct producer-to-consumer marketing opportunities.
The George Washington Regional Commission (GWRC) accepted the FMPP grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s(USDA) farmers market promotion program on behalf of the Fredericksburg Regional Farmers Market Consortium which consists of the farmers’ markets in the City of Fredericksburg and the Counties of King George and Spotsylvania. The Markets has yet to organize under any legal definition, requiring the GWRC to underwrite the consortium’s grant request. The grant will be used to build Farmers Market sales by connecting low-income shoppers with fresh local foods.
Fredericksburg Farmers Market
The Fredericksburg Farmers Market now has two locations for your shopping convenience!
Our original market is located at Hurkamp Park in historic downtown, and is a part of a long-standing tradition of local merchants selling their wares on the street. Fredericksburg’s open-air commerce dates back earlier than the City’s founding in 1728, but only in the last quarter century has the Fredericksburg Farmers Market been organized at Hurkamp Park.
With 28 vendors, it offers a full range of competitively priced vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, breads, local wine, and plants, all within walking distance of downtown restaurants and other shopping opportunities. So whether you’re shopping for groceries, or making a day of it downtown, stop by and visit the Fredericksburg Farmers Market.
Spotsylvania Farmers Market
The largest farmers market in the region, the Spotsylvania County Farmers Market has three locations: Route 3-Gordon Road Commuter Lot, Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, and Spotsylvania Courthouse Village. Over 45 vendors sell locally produced foods and plants at this vibrant market. The Spotsylvania Farmers Market has served as a place for local farmers and food producers to sell their wares directly to the community for 15 years. Each market location has easy access to a broad array of well-priced, farm-fresh products. Discover the bounty of the fresh, local vegetables, fruits, meats, seafood, eggs, cheeses, breads, and plants at the Spotsylvania Farmers Market all year long.
King George Farmers Market
The King George Farmers Marker, America’s Favorite Farmers Market Winner (2010), is now open to growers from both King George and Westmoreland Counties. Our Producers-Only market features fresh vegetables, fruits, berries, fish, breads and jams from the fields, forests and waters of our beautiful region. Join us for a fantastic new season!
